WHO WE ARE

Swansea Business Improvements Business Improvements (Swansea BID) was created by businesses in Swansea city centre who voted to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) in March 2006.

Swansea BID is a business in its own right and is controlled by a board of directors drawn from stakeholders in the city centre who were nominated by its members and give their experience and time for free. These directors are local independent business owners, national businesses and councillors representing the local authority.

The day – day running of BID is managed by Russell Greenslade, Caroline Jeffs and Amie Halliday at our offices in Swansea City Centre. Further information on how to contact the BID team can be found in the contact us section along with a list of our Chair Directors.

Swansea BID is wholly funded by a 1% levy paid by our members based on their rateable value. This money is collect by the local authority on our behalf.

An example being if a business pays £10,000 per year in business rates the BID levy they pay will be £100. For this money our members gain a whole host of fantastic benefits that make Swansea City Centre a better place plus gain access to some new BID Member Benefits.

Swansea BID is a not for profit business, we are registered as a company limited by guarantee and any surplus revenues are ploughed back into the local area.

Since inception, Swansea BID has invested over £2.3 Million into  delivering the aims and objectives of the company.

The benefits of Swansea BID in the City Centre is clear :

  • Reduced violent crime & disorder by 68%
  • Reduced retail crime by 12%
  • Won a national City Centre cleansing award making Swansea City Centre cleanest City Centre in the Country.
  • Brought in over 150,000 people into the City Centre through events such as Swansea Live, Get Welsh etc
  • Brought in over 100,000 vehicles into the City Centre through car parking initiatives.
  • Brought in an extra 3m pounds into City Centre businesses based on an average retail spend of £12 per person.
  • Reduced our member’s costs by over £5,000 per year/£25,000 over BID term if all BID Member Benefits are taken.
