Swansea Lockdown Takes Effect on Sunday –  Shoppers Encouraged to Shop Local and Stay Safe

September 25, 2020 4:37 pm

Swansea is one of the latest areas to be locked down due to a rise in Covid-19 cases, with the restrictions taking effect on Sunday from 6pm. As students return to the City Centre, infection rate data will be monitored and, under the local lockdown rules, nobody is able to enter or leave the area without a ‘reasonable excuse’.

Clearly, this is not news any of us wished to hear at this time and we know our BID area businesses will be alarmed at these further restrictions. Shops will remain open in order to provide the invaluable support to local shoppers, and we will continue to support you in getting the message out there to consumers in the Swansea area that Swansea City Centre is open for business and that strict social distancing measures are an integral part of our BID area businesses’ regular routine now, in order to keep people safe.

Under lockdown, people are allowed to travel to outside the area for a limited number of reasons, including:

• To go to work if they are not able to work from home

• To go to school

• To give care

• To buy food or medical supplies

If your staff do need to work from the City Centre, remember to make the most of the parking offers we have negotiated as part of your BID Benefits, including:

• NCP car parks (York Street and Orchard Street). Download the NCP Park Pass app and enter the BID code, available from the BID office by emailing [email protected].uk, to park for £4 for 24 hours
• BID has negotiated a 42 percent discount for parking at St David’s or High Street car parks when motorists buy a season ticket.  Contact the BID office to redeem the offer

We will continue to let consumers know about their parking options in the City Centre and the delivery options our BID area businesses have in place through our BID and Big Heart of Swansea media platforms.

It is vital to remember too that the NHS Track & Trace app that was launched this week does not replace the evepass.app or other track and trace platform some business are already using to monitor customers and clients. Please continue to use this, so we can do everything we can to support the authorities in managing Covid-19. More information and how to download the NHS Track & Trace App can be found here – https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-covid-19/

We will be updating our social media channels and website with the most recent news from the Welsh Government so please keep an eye on these:  https://www.swanseabid.co.uk/documents/
